View this post on Instagram R.I.P. the UK's last AMC cinema - AMC Great Northern, Manchester. Seen here in 2017 shortly before being rebranded as Odeon. AMC built the first multiplex in the UK at The Point in Milton Keynes in 1985, opened several more theatres around the UK and sold out to UCI in 1989. They re-entered the UK with by building their Manchester cinema in 2002 and in Birmingham in 2003. AMC sold the Birmingham Broadway Plaza to Odeon in 2012. UCI and Odeon were bought and merged by Terra Firma in 2004 with UCI cinemas being rebranded as Odeon. In 2016 to bring things full circle AMC bought Odeon/UCI thus buying back a lot of the cinemas they built back in the 80s. Now AMC are planning to sell off Odeon in 2018-2019.
