Join me on my merry trek of old ruins, cinemas, railways and things that just catch my attention around Yorkshire and the UK. John.
View this post on Instagram Wainhouse Tower at night. Illumination for the crown at the top was added using blue LEDs when repairs were carried out in 2008. You can see the three viewing areas: the main area is lit up in green, the level above in yellow (not open to the public) is accessed by further stone stairs and the the top blue level accessed by ladder. There had been plans for an observatory at the top, however all of the decoration added would obstruct any telescopes preventing a clear view of the sky. The dyeworks were sold without the chimney a year before the chimney was complete (the new owner didn't want it), the new owner was subsequently prosecuted under the Smoke Abatement Act and reluctantly had to build his own (less impressive) chimney!! #folly #chimney #halifax #illumination #wainhousetower #tower #observatory #coronet #stonework #factorychimney A post shared by John | Exploration and history (@merrytrek) on Sep 1, 2019 at 4:23pm PDT
