Hillside opening, near Kirkby Stephen

View this post on Instagram

Mystery opening in the hillside seen from the train south of Kirkby Stephen. Could be a mine adit, or culvert for the stream? The map shows LK (dis)? . This is near Outhgill and not far from Pendragon Castle built, according to legend, by King Arthur's father Uther Pendragon. There are old lead and coal mines in the area. One of Wainwright's walks goes up a track below it #outhgill #highseat #pennines #limekiln #settlecarlislerailway #apenninejourney
