View this post on Instagram Cornish mining engineer John Taylor built the engine house in 1842 for the Duke of Devonshire hence the Cornish mine look. The engine house pumped water from the mine out of the nearby shaft, which my readings today say is about 49 metres deep (although a couple of spureous readings read 100m) it should connect with the middle level crosscut at about that depth. Originally the shaft was much deeper, connecting with the deep adit and levels below that, reaching almost 150m A post shared by John | Exploration and history (@merrytrek) on Jul 15, 2019 at 9:36am PDT
